A Good Trip to Goodwill

Isn’t every trip to Goodwill a good one?! I just love it! Especially the Goodwill here in Staunton–it’s GIANT and so well organized…and I appreciate that!

I’ve written about some of my favorite thrift store finds in the past, and I thought it was about time I find some more! I used to be a seasoned pro while planning our wedding, but I felt like I was getting a bit out of practice!

In case you’re out of practice too, here are some things to keep in mind when shopping at thrift stores:

  1. Use your imagination
  2. Look for classic shapes (for clothing)
  3. Never underestimate the power of a good coat of spray paint (not for clothing)
  4. With housewares, use the “Could-I-find-this-in-West-Elm?” test (or insert whatever store you prefer…Anthro, Target, PB…)
  5. Bring a friend for moral support (Not necessary, but sometimes you can get TOO much of an imagination and go a little crazy!)

So, armed with a good imagination and my iPhone, I took a trip to Goodwill and here are some of the treasures that I found…

Mr. Rogers anyone?!! I’m a sucker for a good elbow patch!

There are always tons of vases in the “Wares” (?!) section…this one is a keeper! The Office and Backstreet Boys board games fly like hotcakes come White-Elephant-Party-time around Christmas! …And I had to document the sad cameras!Stay away from the creepy dolls! Here’s my basket. A vase, frame, and shower curtain for $14.12…pretty good!
Fast forward and here are my finds back at home…see how much better things look in a different context?!This frame is fine as is, but it would also look great spray painted…maybe a mint or yellow color?! I’ll do an update if I decide to paint it!This is a brand new Target shower curtain and it was only $9.95!

Happy Thrifting!

Jill, I bought the exact shower curtain from our Goodwill and it’s hanging up as we speak!! I guess good taste just runs in the family:)

Your flowers in your vase look pretty. The vase is actually the bottom of a pumpkin. The lid must have broken. I used to have one. Wish I would have thought of it as a vase. Love it!!
