I walk by it everyday on the way to my office, but usually I don’t think about it much. Then sometimes it hits me. That it was handmade especially for me! Buddy is really good at getting gifts for me but this one is definitely at the top of the list!
A few years ago, Buddy came down to my parent’s house on Christmas day and we exchanged gifts. He went first and then it was my turn. I was waiting for him to run out to the car to get the present he forgot, but instead he told me to get my laptop. “Ummm, okay…?” I got my laptop and then he told me to check my email. At this point I was thoroughly confused. But, I opened my email and there it was in my inbox– an unopened email from him with an attachment. It was a picture of my gift– a handmade writing desk that he had been working on for the past few weeks! I was in awe! I couldn’t believe he actually made it for me…I knew he was talented, but come ON…it looked so professional!!
To this day, I’m still blown away by it (even if I don’t notice it every morning). I LOVE it and it required so much thought, time, and energy to make, that it’s even more special. He didn’t just pick it out of a West Elm catalog and have it shipped to my house (which I still would have loved!), he had to research and learn to make a piece of furniture. Really?! He’s a carpenter on the side? What a keeper…I mean…Jesus was a carpenter!
He set the bar really high with this one and I currently have a list of other handmade pieces of furniture that I need in our house!
SIDE NOTE: We’ve almost been married for A WHOLE YEAR (4.30.11)!!! Seriously crazy and so hard to believe it’s been that long!

And here’s the best part of the WHOLE thing…he used a wood engraving pen to etch scripture on the top of the desk and he etched the reference on the side… “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:2
Bud is such a STUD! What a jack of all trades! I remember seeing this table at the old house, before you were married! This table has seen you two dating, engaged and now married! Happy almost one year anniversary! I hope you two have something fun planned! Miss you both!
